ICARUS SOLAR DECATHLON HOUSE

Georgia Tech’s Solar Decathlon house demonstrates a building-integrated photovoltaic roof design that integrates 27 PV panels providing 6.5 KW of electricity to power the energy systems and appliances of the house. The panels are located on an adjustable rack that allows them to pivot and optimize their solar orientation. A portion of the south wall contains 12 PV panels providing an additional 2.0 KW of electricity to service an electrical vehicle. The roof is composed of a double translucent skin made from ETFE film, a polymer-based, translucent membrane with high corrosion and temperature resistance.
